Inspector Hickson, owing to the nature of the Native dispute at Paeroa, Thames, has chartered the steamer Paeroa, and left this evening with Bixteen police and twenty Permanent Artillery under Lieutenant Hume. The members of the party were armed. It is understood that the Thames police and Mr Kenny, Stipendiary Magistrate, will leave Thames at daylight to-m-*row to join them. WELLINGTON, Apbil 30. The Premier's instructions to Inspector Hickson are that the natives must be dealt with in the Bame way as Europeans under the circumstances, and that the utmost firmness most be shown to avert the danger arising from the meeting of two bodies- of armed men between whom there is bad blood. Government cannot permit a dispute over a gravel-pit to be a source of annoyance and anxiety to a whole country aide.
