CPes'Pbess Association.! AUCKLAND, Afbhi 23. Mary Sullivan was fined by Captain s Jackson, Stipendiary Magistrate, £10 and ' costs £6 10s for sly grog-selling in the Sing Country, at Mokau. There is a probability of the Hon W. P. Seavßa delivering an address before leaving Auckland for Wellington. Government has decided to continue to usa Motuihi aB a quarantine station for stock, and with this view to do certain •work there necessary for the proper care , of stock placed upon the island. The unveiling of Bewi's monument took place to-day in the presence of a largs assembly of Europeans and Natives at Kihikihi. Mr Seymour Thorne George-, Miss George, Messrs James Mackay and Carrick and Colonel Beck were present, The following is a^ correct translation, of . the Maori inscription on the monument t i — " In memory of Rewi Maniopoto, the • last great chief of the Ngatimania of Ongatiraukawa, Waikato, in these parts an upholder of good between the European and Maori nations, and a constant supporter of the seal- of the Treaty of Waitaogi at that time. Eewi Maniopoto is still living. April 1, 1894. Born in 1807." The Rev Mr Wilson, in surplice, offered up a short prayer, and was followed by the Rev W. Gittos, who in a neat speech eulogised the good qualities of the old chief, after which Mr Seymour George, as representative of Sir G. Grey, unveiled the monument, which was received with three rounds of blank cartridge by the Natives. Speeches were also delivered by Native chiefs and Messrs M'Kay, Wig? and John-, of Te Awamutu. Mr W. H. Grace acted as interpreter. Three cheers for Sir G. Grey and^Bewi snd the singing of the National Anthem closed the proceedings. There were to be a grea£ Native feast this evening and a Maori hnk\ in the Town Hall. The horses Yum Yum, Ike, Black Oits .and Lottie were shipped tor the (.outb. by the Takapuna today.
