Mr M'lntyre suggested that the incoming: committee should take stepa to have Arbor Day observed on an early date in June, instead of on August 1. Sbji*on. — The following' committee was elected :— Messrs S. Croffc, D. H. Thompson, J. Baird, E. L. Z&illy, J. Anderacai E. Lewis and H. Vallance. Mr S. Croft was re-elected chairman. Waimaitaitai.— -The following committee waß elected :-=*Mes3rs SchmiiJt, Pringle, Beckingham, Dowie, Dawsou, Clnlee, Glasson, Mason and Frase? (chairman). I Spbetdoit.— There was only a moderate' attendance of householders, The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year : — -Messrs Gotfc, Smith, Gahaghan, Walker, M'Eay, Bird and Comer. At ; "a meeting of the new committee, Mr C. W. Comer was elected chairman. Timabtt. — About four hundred householders were present. The report of the outgoing committee stated that the zoll number at the beginning of the year, at both schools, was 1049, at the close 960, showing a loss of 89, which, the committee thought, was chiefly due to the opening of private schools for young children. The echocl bank' waa doing well under the supervision of Mr J. S. Keith and the head-master, assisted by the staff. The number of depositors at the end of the year was 486, an increase of 99 during the year, and the amount to their credit was £117 12s 2d, an increase of £11 16 a sd. Yaldhubst.— The following committee was elected : — Messrs A. Freeman (chairman), G. Carpenter, E. Boon, P. Willcox, A. Chisnall, W. H. Taylor and J. Jamieson. Flaxton (Main). — The following committee waa elected : — Mesßra J. B. Chatterton (chairman), .J. Crampton, W. Taylor, B. Witbam, T. Clothier, W. Doidge and W. Larcombe. Marshlands. — Twelve candidates were nominated, and the following were elected : —Messrs C. H. Walter 21, E. Maddison2l, J. Davidson 18, J. Goodman 18, J. Gold* throp 16, C. Lange 16 and G. W. Bradsbaw 14. Mr Walter was elected chairman of the committee. Papanui. — About fifty persona were, present, and Mr T. S. Weaton occupied the chair. The report Bhowed the average daily attendance for the year to have been 222-6. showing an increase of 11. Of 284 presented for examination, 9 were absent and only 13 failed. Twelve candidates were nominated for the new committee, and the following were elected: — Messrs Gifkins 37, W. Jackson 37, Buntin 35, T. S. Weaton 33, Derrett 31, Were 31, Hudson 28, Jones 27 and Free 26. Mr Gifkins was re-elected chairman. Hampbtead. — The following were elected: — Messrs G. W. Andrews, W. Crooks, E. Blackler, F. M. Bicknian, Strange, Sage, A. Headry, A. Orr and Watson. Mr W. Crooks was re-elected chairman. Eangiora.— There was a good attendance. The Mayor (Mr J. Sansom) wbb voted to the chair. Mr C. I. Jennings, chairman of the outgoing committee, read the annual report, which wa9 of a satisfactory character. There was a credit balance of £34 10s lid. The report was adopted. The question of the discontinuance of merit prizes waa discussed, it being suggested that &n 'excursion or treat of some kind should be substituted. Eventually it was resolved, on the motion of the Eev P. B. Monro— "That merit prizes be discontinued for one year, and that certificates of merit be substituted." It was also decided that the special prizes already offered should be given, but that no othera should be accepted. The usual votea of thanks were passed. The incoming committee was recommended to take into consideration the question of providing a gymnasium. The old committee was re-elected for the- eecond time without opposition, the members being Messrs H. Boyd, B. Ball, T. Millar, A. B. BJackett, W. Foster, W. Luxton, D. Graham, P. E. Monro and C. I. Jennings. This concluded the business, and a vote of thanks to the Mayor concluded the proceedings. At a meeting of the newlyeleoted committee Mr W. Foßter was elected chairman: and Mr J. B. Wilson was reelected secretary. A committee, consisting of the Eev P. E. Monro, Messrs Boyd, Blackett and Jennings, was appointed to report regarding a gymnasium. SouTHßEooK.— The meeting was well attended. Mr John Sutcliffe presided. The report of the outgoing committee was satisfactory. The committee elected was Messrs A. Ellis, T. Pickard, D. Adamson, J. Seed, J. Withers, J. Buckley and J. Blake. At the meeting held afterwards, Me J. Seed was elected: chairman and Miss Seed was appointed secretary. Ashley. — The meeting was a small one. Mr W. Booker presided. A satisfactory report was given. The new committee elected was Mesßra D. Collie, W. E. Booker, G. Bowron, D. Dick, ML Peach, A. Loffhogan, C. Jolly and G. Whiteside. Mr Booker was re-elected Chairman. Kaiapoi.— About one hundred householders were present,, and; Mr E. Moore, chairman of the committee, presided. The report of the outgoing committee deall at length with the features of interest of the work of the pasjb year.. The attendance, which had been 459 V equal to 87 per ceat of the roll number, had been affected by the epidemic of measles. There waa a balance in hand of £18 10a 6d.
