SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
Annual Elections. The annual meetings of householders for the election of School Committees were held last evening. Following are the reports of meetings which came to hand last night :— EAST CHRISTCHURCH. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The election of the committee for the ensuing year resulted as follows :— M. Sandßtein (chairman) 142, J. E. Brunt 144, M. Murphy 127, H. Allison 126, J. T. Smith 124, J. S. Williams 123, P. J. Board 101, I. Pentecost 91, S. Clarke 76, D. Lumeden 74, M. S. Brown 73, J. Jamieaon 68, H. T. Kennedy 39, T. E. Praaer 32 and Qt. W. Staniland 20. The first nine were declared duly elected. Several suggestions were made to the incoming committee, among which were the appointment of a truant officer for the district, the alteration of the winter holidays from May to April, and the use of printed forms giving parents a reason for the detention of children at the school after 4 p.m, A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring committee and to the teachers, The new committee afterwards met, and re-elected Mr Sandstein as chairman.
