Fires.— About Beven o'clock on Friday evening an alarm of fire was given in the Geraldine township, the goree in tbe Waihi river-bed having been Bet on fire, endangering the fence 3 at the back of sections occupied by Messrs Archibald, Stonehouse and others. The fire brigade was speedily on tbe spot with engine &nd hose reel. A strong south-westerly wind caused the fire to spread Botae distance aiong the river-bed, but eventually, after about an hour's hard work, the fire was got under control. — A fire broke out at the home of Mr Gifkins, at the Styx, yeoterday, and burned it to the ground.
