■■«■ OEDINAET MEETING. A meeting of the Board of Governors o? Canterbury College was held yesterda/ afternoon j present — Messrs F. de C. Mnlet (chairman), E. G. Wright, H. R. Webb, E. W: Fereday, H. You Haast, T. W. Stringer, T. S. Weston, W. .Chrystall, E. Beetham, F. D. S. Neave, T. S. Foster. A. E. G. Rhodes, G. G. Stead, the Hon W. Montgomery and Captain Garsia. • chairman's statsmknt. The Chairman reported that Messrs T. S. We3ton end J. Anderson, jun., had baen elected to seat's on the Board. He apolo-. gised for the . absence, through illness, of Mr Anderson: He declated vacanoie3 on the Akaroa, Eangiora and Waimate High School Boards. The retiring members on each Board — Mr J. G. Black (Akaroa), Mr G. J. Leech (Eangiora) and Mr «E. O. Sfcudholme (Waimate) were re-elected. SCHOOL OF AGBICCXLTUEE. The Chairman moved—" That the thanks of the Board of Governors be given to Lord Onslow, Mr P. Cunningham and the Agent-General for the valuable serviceu tendered by them in the select sort cf the Director of the School of Agriculture." The motion waa seconded by the Hon W. Montgomery and carried. ELECTIONS. The report of the Committee appointed to consider the method of conducting elections was brought up, but it waa pointed out that, by the .provisions of Ciaure 16 of the Bagiilarioriß, It could Eoij be given effect to, and the matter was therefore allowed to drop. BOARD OF ADVIOB. The Chairman further reported that Mr A. E. G. Ebodeß, by virtue of his office as President of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, had become a member of the Board of Advice of the Agricultural College. COMMITTEES. I Mr Wright suggested that it would ba adviaable to have the names of those^ members who attended committee ine&tingß recorded in the reports of the committeaa, and expressed his willingness to give notice of a motion to that effect, to be considered at tbe next meeting. ' THE CHAIRMAN. Mr Maldt stated that privats buaiaess would shortly necessitate his leaving the | colony for some months, And he thought it j would be advisable for him to resigu hia office as chairman. This would probably" be the last meeting at which he would preside. H& resigned with regret, because he had been connected with the college from its commencement, having been the first registrar, and afterwards having baen* elected to a seat on the Board. As he would probably not be there when his, successor waa, elected, he took the opportunity of thanking tha members of the Board for their hearty co-operation, and the officers of the college for their loyal assistance. From a long experience he could say that the Board was extremely well served. Mr Beatham moved — " That twelva 1 months' leave of absence be granted to Mr Malet." This motion was seconded by- Mr Webb and carried. COIiLEOE COMMITTEE.. The Board went into committee to consider the College Committee's report. On resuming, it waa reported that tbe, j following recommendations of the Comr_ mittee had beta adopted : — " (1) That" the 'j resignation of tt* lady principal of the j Gitlß* High Schools accepted with regrat, { and that the Co'nsge Committee be authorised to advertise in New Zealand papers only for a BUCcteaor, afc a salary of JB4OO per annunj without fees, the engagement to be suliject to six months* notice in writing on either side ; (2) that the lecturer in biology be granted a permanent seat on the Professorial Council ; (3) that permission be granted to the lecturer in biology to lecture up to 8 p.m. for the current year ; (4) that students be not allowed to attend lectures at Canterbury College in any but the customary dress." The letter of resignation from the lady principal of the Girls' High School afcatad that, owing to ill-health, she waa obliged to give up the position. The meeting then terminated.
