Excitement in Lyttelton.
Information from Ficton as to the results o? the Chompionship Regatta was eagerly Bought after in Ljttelton on Monday night, j and when a telegram waa received stating j that the Championship races bad to be postponed on account of the lumpy water, the large crowd which bad assembled in ' front of the Telegraph Office awaiting the ' newa dispersed in disappointment. The : tidings tbat the Lytteltoii crew had bean • again successful wore received uhortly after nine .o'clock this moraing, and spread ; like wild fire over the town. Naturally the club officials and tuembera were highly ; jubilant over the victory of: their crew and the wires flashed back many congratulatory messages. Honour was done the crew by the display ot bunting at the headquarters of 1b.9 Canterbury and Corinthian Yacht Clubs and many place 3of business throughout the town. The crew conoistß o? W. J. Harkiss, stroke (12at 21b); D. J. Pege (I2it 51b); F. J. Paga (I2at); A. E. M. Ascfaman, bow (12st lib), with J. Baecrof fc cox ; \ the eama ciew who won tKo championship last year at Kaiapoi, but were defeated at the Eatuary by the Canterbury Bowing Club crew laat month. The committee oE tho Lytteltoa Rowing Club meets tonight to arrange a public reception tor the crew, who are expected back to Ly ttelton on Thursday. They compete i& the- Senior Fcurs at the Wellington Regatta to-monow, when they meet the game craws whom they defeated at Picton this morning.
