Ordinary Meeting. An ordinary meeting of the Selwyn County Council was held this morning; present —Mr D. M'Millan (chairman), Messrs W- Bo*g, W. Dunlop, R. Westenra, Turner, A. Wiffen and J. G. From the Springs, Riccarton, Courtenay, and Lincoln Road Boards, and the Ashburton County Connoil, in reference to the suppression of small birds. From the Heathcote Road Board, asking for a cheque for the amount voted for main roads. From the Springs Road Board, with reference to the proposed drain on the west side of the Canal Reserve at Lake Elle3mere. BOUNDAEY BBIDGKS. Mr Westenra moved, purauant to notice —"That the Roads Diversion Committee be requested to inquire into the position of the boundary bridges under the control of tbe Council, with a view to getting them proclaimed under the Public Works Act Amendment Act, 1857." The motion was seconded by Mr Turner, and agreed to. SLAUGHTERING tICEKSE AT ADDINdTON. The Chairman said that in the face of the petition against the granting of the Addington slaughter license, the Council could go no further with it. This was agreed to. MISCELLANEOUS. The accounts from the Riccarton returning-officer, which amounted to £75, were left over till nest; meeting to be taxed along with the other licensing election accounts. Consideration of the matter of the bridge over the Selwyn at Ellesmere was deferred until replies were received from tbe Ellesmere and Southbridge Road Boards. \ Replies from Road Boards with reference to tba small birds nuieanco were considered; Tbe. Council had suggested that 6d per dozen should be given for small birds' heads and Is for blackbirds' heads. Discussion' was deferred until further re- ! plies were received. ! The Springs Road Board wrote in referj ence to the Lake Elleamere drain on the ! west side of the canal, that it would con- ' tribute one-third of the cost provided the adjoining land-owners also paid one-third, the Council to uay the remainder, which, i money would bo funds that would ultimately be spent in tha Board's interest; therefore, tbe Board would really contribute two-thirds. The Council decided to ask the Board to carry out the work, and to collect one-third of the cost from tbe landowners. Reports wero raceivedfrom the inspector upon the various contracts in hand, and from tb.9 inspector of slaughter-houses. A report upon the water-races waa also received. Accounts amounting to £1404 19s Id were passed for payment and the meeting closed. "
