RIFLE SHOOTING.
. On Friday last a couple of sweepstake competitions took plaoe on the range of the Lyttelton Rifle Clnb, Corsair Bay. Several well-known Canterbury riflemen were present, and considering the difficult nature of the shooting, some very respeotable scores were made. There was a strong, though unsteady front wind blowing and as the afternoon Wore on the light waß very changeable. The best performance of the day was the score of 90 at 200, 500 and 600 yards made by Mr R. J. Wakelin, o_ Christchnrch. The shooting only tended to prove to tho marksmen that the chief cause of their failure at tho recent Bifle Association's meeting was the inferiority of the ammunition in use. On Friday, only English ( manufactured cartridges were used, and, las before stated, the shooting was of a most difficult description compared with that ußdoc t^ coiK-itwna^t -Hills-
