THE LICENSING POLL.

* — — « Eaiapoi. There waa & large amount of interest taken m thia question at Cnst and West Eyreton. From the first there was no doubt but that half of the eleotora would record their votes. The temperance party having carried out a series of public meetings helfl at various parts of the district, tbe question came prominently before the eleotors. At West Eyreton the vote in favour of "no license " waa most decisive, as that ticket was supported by eleven times the number that supported the continuance of licenses. At both places vehioles were busily employed in bringing voters to the poll. Tho return of thß temperance candidates was looked upon as almoßt a. certainty by the temperance party, whilst the looal option vote was -expected to be -rexy heavy. The result &t Cu-st was somewhat unexpected, as it was generally thought that the vote for reduction would be a large one. !
