[Pee Pbess Association. J AUCKLAND, Fjsb. 23. ' Angus M'Donald, clerk to the Parnell Borough Council, was arrested to-day charged with receiving £1 Is 8d and JB4 25a 6don behalf of the Council, and retaining possession thereof. It is contemplated to have a children's flower show, and the Countess of Glasgow has promised two ' prizes to be competed for by children in State schools. A telegram haa been received by Six Maurice O'Borke from Wellington, stating that the question of • the removal of the Motuihi quarantine station has been postponed till the return of the Minister of ; Lands to Wellington. , The Premier telegraphs to Hamilton in answer to a requisition asking him to come to Hamilton to meet Native chiefs from the King Country, Piako, &c, to discuss Native affairs, stating that he will be at Te Kuifci about March 8, and will afterwards tour Waik.ato. Herbert Chester has been committed for trial on a charge of false pretences. It is stated that the costs of the petitioner in the election petition for Waitemata amount to £700, subject to reduction by taxation. The respondent's coats are estimated at half that amount. At a meeting of the Burns Club the report was of a favourable character. Mr James Stewart, C.E., was re-elected president, and the Hon W. Swaneon, M.L.C., vice-president.
