[Peb Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. The annual report of the Auckland Savings Bank shows that, though a numbei of old accounts were closed, there is a gain of nearly one thousand additional , accounts. The withdrawals exceeded the deposits during the year by .£15,032, but the added interest to open acoounts, , £21,931, gave a net gain upon the year's , transactions to the credit of depositors oi , nearly £7000. On Jan. 1 the depositors j had £572,261 to credit, while to this large j amount had to be added £30,000 as s ' reserve fund, £10,000 as an investmenl ; fund and £4397 to credit of profit and lose : account; so that the bank at the above date had funds in hand amounting tc £556,658— more than £44.000 in excess oi '. the total indebtedness to depositors, ' Hitherto the rate of interest paid by this { institution haa been 5 per cent, but it U understood that before the present yeai Jias run its course it is probable that thie rate will be reduced at least one-half pet cent. Feb. 4. \ The French warship Duguay Trouin has left port on a cruise. , Tibbutt, the bankrupt charged with ! attempting to abscond from the colony, ! has been remanded till Feb. 13 on bail.
