Tho following officerß were elected for ! the year : —President, Captain F. W. Hutton ; vice-presidents, Hon J. B. Acland, : Messrs J. Meeeon, J. H. Baker and M. Eosb ; honorary secretary and treasurer, ' Mr M. J. Dixon ; committee, Messrs Q. P. ; "Williams, Q. Mannering, P. Graham, A. Ollivier, T. Marshall, T. Johnson and the " officers ex ofiicio j auditor, Mr W. Or. Bhind ; editor of journal, Mr M. Eoss ; librarian, ' Mr G. Mannering. ' Sir Joseph Hooker was proposed as a ', member and two subscribers were reelected. ■ Correspondence waa read from Captain Marshall Hall, A.C., F.G.S., F.C.S., as to j the representation of the Club at the < Geological Congress in 1894, at Zurich, : and suggesting the formation of a sub- . committee to gain information on ice . movement in New Zealand. Captain Hutton. and Messrs Brodrick and ; Manneiing were appointed to take the matter up. From the honorary secretary ; Italian Alpine Club, cordially offering assistance to any New Zealand Alpine Club j member visiting their locality. It waa agreed to publish the letter in the club journal. : It was agreed to exchange publications . with the following kindred societies :— The ■ French Alpine Club, Veaterr Alpon Club, . Deutoh. und Vesterr Alpenveroin, Club : Alpen Swisse, Vestorr Touriaten Club, : Gesellachaft JFiir Erkunde, Berlin. This conoluded the business of the even- : ing. The membership of the New Zealand : Alpine Club is considerably ec&ttered , over the world, and though Chriatchtirch is its headquarters, nearly every town in New Zealand, &nd many in Australia, have a few men 4n this club, and the lists show no less than ! nineteen of the leading lights of the English Alpine Club, and many of the ■ leading scientists of the day. Amongst the qualifications of the various membeis are exploits of bygone days, many of ■ which are worthy of publication ; and it is the intention of the committee to record within the journal all good scientific re- : search and adventure, wore especially by early explorers, aud in every way to aid in , developing the Alpine regions into the " Switzerland "of Australasia, and thereby i help to turn to account one of the largest! ; sourcea of revenue of this country. The club is divided into two distinot branches ' —members who have to pass a reasonable ] ordeal by the Qualification Committae, and ; subscribers of an annual subscription cf " 10a 6d, who aro entitled to oil club publics- i tions and have acooss to all club property J aud to ita general meetings.. The club now ; exchanges publications with the following kindred oocieties : — American Geographical j Society, English Alpina Club, Italian . Alpine Club, Appalachian Mountain Club U.S.A.
