The Government does not j . intend to reappoint Messrs Maxwell end ! ( Hannay ; and has informed those gentle- 1 i men accordingly. On the other hand , Mr Kl'Keirow has been offered an ; appointment as Chief Commissioner, • at his present salary, and has accepted, ■ Mr M'Kerrow's new colleagues will be Mr i T. Eonayne, civil engineer, and Mr John 1 Lee Scott, of Chrietchurob, iron founder. '■ Mr Eonayne ia an English engineer og ( high standing in his profession, and excellent qualifications as an expert railway manager. He ha3 been in the New Zealand railways as district manager since 1875, and is just now district manager at Greymouth. He is deservedly popular throughout the service. Mr John Lee Scott is the principal member of the wall-known firm of Scott Brothers, ; Christchurch. He has been president of , the Canterbury Industrial Association, and one of the moat active supporters in New Zealand of the development and encouragement of local industries* . Hia commercial shrewdness and integrity, and pleasing and conciliatory manner, make him widely esteemed. All three appointments will be for nine months only, as Government deBires to give Parliament perfect freedom in dealing with the question o£ railway management during the forthcoming session.
