Boating Accident.

What was, well-nigh proving a fatal accident happened at Summer this morning through the capsizing of a boat, it appears that four young men who, with others, have been' camping at Sumner during the holidays, went for a' sail in a boat, and when off the Shag Bock, the boat, which was very badly managed, capsized, precipitating the ladß into the water, Two of them,' Alfred Allen and James Hague,clung to the boat, while Arthur and Percy Phipps attempted to swim- ashore. The accident waa noticed by some persons on the road, and, on a cry being raised, Mr Phillip Mager and biß son, who were fieh«ing at the Shag Eock, at once put off in their boat to the rescue. They succeeded in reaching Percy Phipps just as he was going down for the last time, and after picking up his brother took the others off the boat, which was sinking fast. On being got ashore Percy Phipps waß found to-,be quite unconscious, and a messenger was despatched for Dr Hunt, who, fortunately, was attending an inqueßt in the borough. Constable Johnston was also quickly on the scene, and every effort was made to restore respiration, but it was some considerable time before any signs of life were apparent. . The lad waa conveyed to the house i of, Mr Marks, where he received every ' attention, and in about an hour Dr Hunt was able to pronounce him ' out of danger. Great ere lit ia due to all ;, who acted bo promptly in the matter. The : j other lads escaped with nothing worse than ■ a ducking, and the boat was recovered and \ towed to the jetty by Messrs J.
