THE MAORI ELECTIONS.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. At Gisborne the Maori elections are ' being held to-day. There are a number of 1 Natives in town, and considerable interest i geemß to be taken lay them in the contest, especially on the part of the wahines, who . are on the same political footing as their pale-faced sisters. For the Eastern Maori constituency six " Richmouds" are in the 1 field. The results aro not expected to be • known, before several days, as many polling ' booths are long distances from telegraph l communication, one returning - officer having a week's ride into the heart of the Uriwera country.
