Sydenham Borough Council

An ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held fast evening; present — Councillors Brown, Taylor, Winny, Forrester, Kudd, Jones, Hadfield, Muffott, Smith, Samuels, Clifford and Langdown. • Councillor G. J. Smith, in the absence of the Mayor, was voted to the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. Letters were read :— From the Town Clerk, btating that Mr William Jacques had been elected Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing year. The letter was received. From the New Zealand Land Association, asking the Council to allow it to load wool into drays and waggons from the west entrance of it 3 Durham street store. Permission was granted, subject to the Association being responsible for any accidents that may occur. WORKS COMMITTEE. The Workß Committee recommended that the offer of Mr W. Ditfort to carry out the scavenger's work of the Borough till March 31 should be accepted. The Committee could not see any neceasity for concreting the channel on the eastern side of Dickens etreet. The repoit was adopted. FINANCE. ' The Finance Committee reported that the .receipts since last meeting had amounted to £596 12a 2d, the principal items being .—General account— rate 6 £304 9a lid, dog licenses £4, bath tickets £2 16b 6d, fines £2 ; separate accountrates £282 13s Bd. The balances of accounts were as follow :— Separate account —credit £381 17s 6d j interest accountcredit £108 143 3d; loan account— credit £5399 183 9d ; general account— debit £160 Os 4J. The Committee recommended payment of accounts amounting to £405 11s 7d, the principal items being— Drainago Board rates £334 17s 6d, Waimakaiiri River Board rates £24 3s 3d. The report was adopted. After attending to some minor matters the meeting closed.
