The Fugitive Offenders Act.

fPEB Pit-SB ASSOCIATION/] AUCKLAND, Dec. 2. Yesterday afternoon at the Resident Magistrate's Court, before Mr H. W. Northcroffc, R.M., Tobias Tobias was charged with having, on or about Feb. 28, 1885, at St Eilda, Victoria, being a British possession in which part 2 of the Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881, applies, unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to Beatrice Tobias. Evidence in the case was heard yesterday. This morning his Worahip gave j udgment. He held that defendant did not come under the Fugitive Offenders Act. Defendant was therefore discharged. His Worship admitted him to bail for three months to allow an appeal against his -decision if thought fit.
