Spreydon Road Board.
The monthly meeting was held on Friday, Oct. 6 ; present — Messrs D. Handisides, J. Hocking, W. T. Oliff, and J. W. Rogers. The minutes concerning Mrs Cummings were discussed at some length, and it appeared that the nuisance complained of had been abated, except that a bridge had not been put over the ditch. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mrs Cummings, stating that a bridge must be put down within seven daye, or the Board would do the work and charge her with the expense.— A lißt of persons receiving charitable aid was received from the Charitable Aid Office, Christchurch.— A letter was received from, the Ofcristchurch City Council as to commission paid bj the Drainage Board. The Clerk stated that the inf or-, mation had been forwarded.— Tenders not having been sent in for cartage, an offer had been sent by Mr Murphy to do the work. It was proposed — " That the matter stand over until next meeting." An amendment — " That the offer be accept9d " —was carried by the casting vote of the Chairman. The report of the work done by the unemployed w&b approved. — A discussion took . placeas to the work in Bosewarne street. It was decided that the matter stand over for two months. The clerk was instructed by resolution to write to those persons whose fences encroached on the paths, and give them notice to cut them back. Accounts amounting to JE33 16a lOd were passed for payment. It was resolved that the foreman have a half-holiday on Satur*
aay. __________________ STDENHAM WeSLEYAN SUNDAY SCHOOIi. —The anniversary services in connection with the Sydenhain Wepleyan Sunday school were celebrated yesterday. The services were conducted by the Revs P. W. Fairclough, J. Dawson and W. Baumber, who preached at the morning, afternoon and evening services respectively. The church was very prettily decorated with evergreens, flax, ivy and lilies. All the services were well attended, and in the evening the church was filled to overflowing, several people being -unable to gain admittance. The children to the number of over three hundred sang special hymns and anthems in a manner, which showed that they "had been carefully trained by their conductor, Mr W. A. Hall. Miss N. Daltry presided at the organ, and an orcheßtra* rendered good assistance.
