WELLINGTON, Oct. 8. j The Premier addressed the electors of Wellington suburbs at Petone last night, ; in support of Mr T. Wilford, who, Mr j Seddon announced, had been eelectod as j the Government candidate. The Mayor presided, and there was a large attendance, including a number of ladies. The Premier reviewed tbe work of the session, and blamed the Council for not passing various Bills calculated to improve the condition of the labouring classes. He stated moat emphatically that the Government was determined not to extend the tenure of the Bailway Commissioners for another year, but said he had not exactly decided -on the course to pursue. Sir Patrick Buckley, the Hon J. Carroll and Mr T. Wilford also addressed the meeting. The usual vote of thanks was passed, and the utmost enthusiasm was displayed. Mr Seddon statea that he will contest either his present seat or Wellington city ab the general election. The Premier will address a public meeting at Feilding on Saturday next. He leaves for the south during the following week, and will deliver political addresses. Thence he proceeds to the West Coast. The Postmaster-General leaves for Invercargill on Monday or Tuesday, and the Minister for Justice proceeds to Auckland towards the end of next week. Sir E. Stout and Mr W. M'Lean announce themselves candidates for the city. At a meeting, convened by circular, it was decided to invite Messrs J. Duthie and H. D. Bell to contest the city. WANGANUI, Oct. 9. Mr James Aitken, 8.A., announces that he will oppose Mr Willis in the Liberal interest for Wanganui. He promises that he will not persist in his candidature in the event of a Conservative entering the field, but will retire in Mr Williß' favour, that is, if the majority of the* electors of the district desire him to do so.
