Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry.

The annual training of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry is again being held at the Addington show grounds, .which have been placed at the disposal of the corps by the Canterbury Agricultmal and Pastoral Association. On Friday afternoon a fatigue party, under Corporal Lewin, commenced preparations for the reception of the troop, and by -the time the advance guard arrived at the camp the tents were all erected, and everything was in readiness. The Rangiora and Little River contingents came in by road, and the AshTburtoa and Timaru men, with their horses, arrived by train, disembarking at Addington at seven o'clock. By ten o'clock all were under canvas, and military order was established. A visit to the camp yesterday showed that every arrangement had been made for the comfort of the men. The tents have been pitched in four lines at the bottom end of the Bhow ground, close to the row of horse-boxeß, which afford v ry good shelter from the south-west. The two inner rows of boxes have been utilised for the chargers, and very comfortable they look. Head-quarter 3 have been established in the Secretary's offices, a portion of which is also used as an orderly-room. Mr P. Burke, who has charge of the canteen and commissariat, has converted the produceshed into a well-appointed meBS-room, and has erected a temporary kitchen, with two portable Btoveß capable of cooking for 120 persons. An ambulance corps is on the ground in charge of Surgeon Jennings and Ambulance-Corporal Wilson. A fullyequipped ambulance waggon is also provided. The. camp is in charge of Captain Wright, who has as officerß Lieutenants Bhodes, Archer and Dampier-Crossley, and Captain Coleman is the Government Instructor. Routine duty was started with the "reveille" at six o'clock yesterday morn- i ing, and after breakfast the men were put through a couple of hours' troop drill, while " general leave " was the order for the afternoon. Lieutenant Bhodes was officer of the day, with Sergeant Melton as orderly-sergeant. During the afternoon Lient?n ant-Colonel Gordon, with Colonel Lean, Major Slater and Sir Arthur Douglas, paid a visit to the camp, as did a number of the officers of city corps, ! and a large numbar of the public. The trocp has lately added to its numbers, and is now stronger than it has been for some years. There are \at present sixty-two officers and men in camp, and about a dozen more are expected. Amongst the horses are some well-known animals, as well as a number of fresh ones, and, taken all round, they are a creditable looking lot. • Attached to the camp is a regimental goat, which, suitably caparisoned, caused a good deal of amusement to the public. Mrs E. Chapman has pre- | eented the members with an enlarged opal photograph of the late Lieutenant Chapman, who met an untimely death by accident since the last .training. Sergeant Dampier-Croßsley has been promoted to the lieutenancy thus rendered vacant, Corporal Winßloe haa been promoted to be Sergeant, Lance-Gorporal Buckley to be Corporal, and Trooper Parsons to be Lance-Corporal. This morning the troop paraded with swords only at 6.30, and at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. mounted paradeß were held in the park. Lieutenant Archer was officer oE the day.
