-«■ J [Per Press Association.! " AUCKLAND, Oct. 5. The Auckland City main roll closed today. It is estimated that 10,000 names . are on it. Mr Worth, President of the Trade 3 and , Labour Council, it is stated will probably , stand for the city. PALMERSTON NORTH, Oct. 5. About eight hundred women have been registered, and up to now the roll contains over 4000 names. The only candidates for i Palmerston so far are Mr Sneison (Opposi- \ tion) and Mr F. Pirani (Government). WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. Mr C. B. Izard has withdrawn his candidature for the Otaki seat on account of the btate of his health. Mr Tregear has refused the request of the Tradeß Council to Btand for Wellington. In a letter to an eveniag paper he says that he has no intention of entering political life, and referring to the statement' that he was to be a nominee of the Government, he says : — " Had I oared to stand aB a nominee I should have done so before at the request of a man I loved and honoured, who is now dead." A novelty in electioneering is the formation of a Committee of thirteen Maoris to work portions of the Hutt district in the interests of one of the candidates. The Registrar received 1600 more claims to vote to-day, making 4500 in all, of whom three-fourths are women. Mr W. C. Buchanan announces himself as a candidate for Wairarapa.
