The Church Congress is raising funds to relieve the miners' famine. Half a million children are daily dependent on charity for food.

There is a dispute between the cabmen and the Manawatu Railway Company over the latter requiring them to take ont a license at a cost of 5s before plying at the station. The Company contends that it is necessary to have control, but the cabmen object and threaten to boycott the station. In the meantime the Company is excluding them from the grounds.
