At a meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce to-day a motion was carried urging the importance of holding a Conference to consider the commercial proposals of the Imperial Federation League. It is proposed that the Conference shall consist of representatives from Britain and the whole of the selfgoverning Colonies. The Dutch Deeming. It is now said that the body of De Jough's first wife haß not yet been found. A Search for Lost Treasure Ships. Menotti Garibaldi has formed a syndicate to search for Spanish treasure-ships lost off the coast of Uruguay in the seventeenth century. SYDNEY, Sept. 28. A Bad Proposal Defeated. At the Hay Supreme Court Circuit, William Hall, for the attempted murder of John Rodon, and Alexander Brysen, a boy of thirteen, for the murder of George Smith, were both sentenced to death. Brysen killed Smith because he interfered with him while beating a dog. HOBA.RT, Sept. 28. A Want of Confidence Motion. Mr Clark moved a vote of want of confidence in the Government over the Income Tax Bill. The debate has been adjourned till Friday. BRISBANE, Sept. 28. Threatening Letters. Detective Gabriel, who waß responsible for the arrest of the Mount Morgan thieves, has received several letters threatening him with death. One of the principal -witnesses also received a Bimilar letter, ADELAIDE, Sept. 28< The Science Gongress. At the Science Congress Sir J. Hector read a paper on the progress of geology in the southern hemisphere. A paper was also read on behalf of Mr Scott, of Christchurch, on education.
