ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
THE REGENT CYCLONE. [Special to Pbsss Association/] WASHINGTON, Sept; 2. The cyclone killed 1000 in BeauEort county alone, and all the negroes except three.
On Friday afternoon a shocking accident happened to a little boy of four and a half years, son of Mr Bracefield, butcher, of Timaru. The lad was taken to the j slaughter-house out of town in a cart, by lan assistant, who went out £o make I sausages. The man put the child on the horse-power gear to have a ride, and the child fell off among the cag-wheels, the result being that one of his legs waa I crushed to pulp at the knee. The child! j was taken to the hospital, and the leg amputated above the knee. On Saturday ; morning the little fellow recovered consciousness, and was doing well. On Saturday a lad named- Buddie, em* ployed by Mr Kenny, of the South End Butchery, Timaru, started to ride out with a basket of meat, when the horse bolted, and threw him violently on the hard street by turning sharply into the stable yard. The lad was taken to the hospital badly, bruised and shaken, but no bones were broken.
