The weather was threatening, and frequent showers of rain fell, rendering the wicket heavy. Essex concluded their first innings for 215, or 35 behind the Australians. Hailey carried out his bat for 88. Kortright 23 and Rickett 25 were the other principal scorers. The Australians in their Bocond innings knocked up 141 runs. Lyon and Banncrman each 29, and Coningham (not out) 19 were the leading scorers. Essex had lost one wicket for 32 runß when the stumps were drawn, and the match ended in a draw. There were no special features in the game except the splendid bowline of Meade, who took eight ot the Australian wickets for 69 runs.
