The up train only got to Mercer, the line from Pokeno to Mercer being partly under water. The down train got to Ohinewai, where it was Btopped by the platelayers aiid ordered back to Huntley, and thence to Waikato, returning the passengers to their homes.' The line is reported to be in a dangerous Btate' at Eureka swamp, eight miles from Fiankfcoa Junction. Serious damage is threatened near the Oxford protective works. In the King Conntry the North Island trunk line shows signs of giving WAy. WELLINGTON, Augqst _. A block on the Manawatu line has been caused by part of the approaoh to the bridge over the Waikawa stream, being earned away. A slip also occurred at Paikakariki. A train was sent ijp to bfinff paasengara from tbis side of tho gap, and arrived this afternoon. WELLINGTON, August 5. The Hutt river is in heavy flood. Sydenham Musioal Society. — The operetta Trial ly Jury waa repeated by the Sydenham Musical Sooiety last evening to a good houee, and another success ■was scored.
