The City election resulted in the return of Sir Cadman by a large majority -.— Cadman ... ... ... 1883 Bees ... ... ... ..r 1132 Majority for Mr Cadman 761 The contest was well fought, and the greatest good humour and order prevailed, though the fight exoited the greatest interest of any aingle eleotion in the history of Auokland. A crowd of several thousand people gathered in front of the City Hall, and awaited for hours the result of the poll, which was received with great cheering. The electors entitled to vote number 6068, of whom 8016 voted. At the olose of the poll Mr Cadman did not appear to make a speeoh, and hia supporters were greatly disappointed thereat. August 5. The number of votes polled yesterday— Cadman 1883 and Bees 1182— with twentyone informal, gives a total of 3036 votes recorded, At the general election the total votes recorded for seven candidates were 0451, each elector having three votes. This gives the number of electors who then exercised the franchise as 8160, being 114 in excess of the total votes recorded at ! yesterday's contest. In view of the fact that 1779 voters have been struck off the oity rolls eince the general eleotion it is evident that yesterday's polling was muoh < larger proportionately than that at the general election. Tbis view was supported by the pressure on the polling booths in tbe Cadman-Bees contest, the officials at the central booth havipg been unable to meet the prew of voters.
