ARBOR DAT.

In Christchurch itself, vety little interest appeared to be taken in Arbor Day, and, owing to many of the suburban schools being closed on account of measles, their was not as much planting done as last year. The Government Offices were closed.

About sixty children from the East Christchurch Bchool, in charge of the headmaster, Mr Scott, proceeded to New Brighton at ten o'clock by a special tram, provided by the Tram Company. On arrival there, under the direction of Mr Murphy, they planted a number of trees 3n some of the streets, and afterwards went to the Selwyn County Council's Eeserve, where about three hundred pines were put in. The New Brighton school children, with the local Committee, planted a number of ornamental trees in the playground. The children attending the Sydenham school proceeded to the Cashmere hills Dornaia and planted a number of trees there.

The members of the Sydenhain Borough Council met at the Council Chamber at 2 p.m., and, with a number of friends, went
