Sumner Borough Council.

« The fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday evening ; present — His Worship the Mayor and Councillors Graham, Carpenter, Kitson and Hayward.. The financial statement showed :—Receipts, including rates £4>Q 19s 4d, JESS 10s 2d; debit balance, £275 43 4d. Letters were read: — Prom the Canterbury Tramway Company, intimating that it intended reducing annual tickets to £6; from MrW. W. Tanner, M.H.R„.respecting the railway. Received with thanks. From the Sydenham Borough Council, concerning the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act. After considerable discussion tbis waß referred to the By-laws Committee. From Mr J. C. Graham,, asking permission to bury nightsoil on his section. The request was refused. Councillor Kitson drew the Council's attention to the fact that Mr R. M. Morten has erected a fence and gate opposite to the seotion north-west of Section 532, and moved that the Clerk be instructed to write to Mr Morten,, asking him his reason for so doing. The motion was carried. Councillor Kitson moved and Councillor Graham seconded .—"That the Lyttelton Harbour Board be asked to kindly furnish the Council with a copy of the agreement or lease given to the la'e Mr Bell of the site of the baths, with a view of ascertaining what power the Council may have when tbe drainage of the town-hip becomes necessary." Tbe mo' ion was carried. It was resolved— " Thar, a sub-Committee be appointed to make full enquiries a3 to the b st means of forming a local Insurance Company, to report at the next meeting."
