The Waimea- Voyage Resumed, The barque Waimea, bound from Wellington to Boston— which putinto Bio de Janeiro on May 10 for medical assistance in consequence of a number of the crew having been injured by an explosion — having completed the necessary repairs has resumed her voyage. A Collision at Sea. The ship Wellington bound from Picton to London, has put into Rio de Janeiro, having been partially dismasted through a collision. Suicide of an Indian Prinoe. News has been received that the Maharajah of Taitai Braga [?] has committed suicide at Brindisi, owing to the theft of his jeweis. Libel Action. The libel action brought by Mr J. Wilson, Secretary of the Seamen's and Firemen's Union, against the proprietor of the London Evening News, claiming =61000 for that paper haying accused him of recklessly spending the funds of the Union, was concluded to-day. The jury found that the comments of the paper were fair and reasonable, and returned a verdict for defendant with coßts. Cardinal Moran. Cardinal Moran, of Sydney, is improving in health. He has been suffering from an affection of the lungs. His Eminence will return to the Colony shortly. ! Imperial Federation. At a meeting of members of the House of Commons interested in Imperial Federation, resolutions adverse to suspending propagandism were carried. Winchester College. The quin-centenary of Winchester College 'was celebrated to-day. The Prince of Wales was among those present. SYDNEY, July 27. i The New South Wales ! Financial Proposals. The Premier, speaking at Aberdeen, made further announeenTents as to the Government's intentions, the '.moat important oE which is that it is proposed to raise by a hospital rate a sum of £250,000 per annum, and said Government would not shirk the questions of Protection or Federation. The Minister for Elucation has announced that after the end of the year the school fee for children over fourteen years of age will be raised to Is per week. MELBOURNE, July 27. Sentence of Death. A sentence, of death has been recorded against a man named Bryan O'Loghlen for burglary and maliciously wounding in South Melbourne. HOBART, July 27. The Tasmanian Floods. The flood-waters in Inveresk are receding slowly. Extreme misery and destitution have been caused. The Bank of Van Diemen's Land— A Lottery, The shareholders in the Bank of Van Diemen's Land have decided to dispose o the assets of the Bank by lottery.
