Sewage and the Cables.
« [Pbr Prbbb Association/! WELLINGTON, June 29. Id a letter to the Postmaster-General on the discharge of sewage into Lyell Bay, Dr Lemon stateß that it is well known that sewage in a state of decomposition settling on iron, after a time destroys it. He states that he is aware that for the next ten, fifteen or twenty-fi^e years no damage may ensue, but when Wellington becomes thickly populated, as it will eventually, then the damage to cables will moat certainly happen. He points out that j in Sydney they had had to change the : drainage into the harbour after the lapse of twenty-five years. The Mayor has { written to the Pestmaßter-General, expressing his willingness to submit the : matter to a Commission of scientific men, , and adds that he has not been informed ! whether Government intends to accept Dr Lemon's opinion without hearing the Corporation.
