This Day. (Before H. W. Bishop, Esq., 8.M., and Captain Deighton.) Maintenance. — Fergus Campbell, on remand, was charged with failing to provide for his two children, Grace Campbell, aged seven years, and John Campbell, aged eight years. Accused, who pleaded "Guilty," forwarded a written statement to the Resident Magistrate, asking him to inflict a fine, as he intended looking after his children in the future. Tho Bench inflicted a fine of 20s, upon the understanding that accused attended to the children in the future; in default three weeks' imprisonment with hard labour. — Henry Loader was charged with failing to comply with an order of the Court to contribute £1 a week towarda the support of his wife and children. Mr Byrne appeared for complainant, and Mr Beattie for defendant. Complainant applied that the order might be increased as she was unable to support hereelt and her five children on JBlaweek. The case was adjourned till next morning to enable the parties to come to some arrangement. Dettnkenness.—For this offence a first offender was fined 5s and costs, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Miscellaneous.—Samuel Shuttleworth and John Bell were each fined 5a and costs for allowing dogs to follow them in Hagley Park.—William White was fined ss, and costs 7s, for keeping unregistered dogs in the Borough of Sydenham.—John Squires was fined ss, and costs 7s, for allowing a cow to wander at large in Sandyford street, Sydenham, on MBy 18.— William Crump, who did not appear, was fined 10a and costs, 7s, for allowing two horses to wander at large in Barbadoe3 street, Sydenham. — George Lumas and Harry Gee were each fined 20a and coßte, 7s, for riding bicycles on the footpath in the Borough of Sydenham. The Bench remarked that bicycle riding on the footpaths was becoming "an intolerable and abominable nuisance, and it would have to be put a stop to."
