Mb Fish's Meeting at Dunedin. — The Otago Daily Times reports :— There waß no vote of any kind passed -at the meeting o! electora addressed by Mr Fißh, M.H.E., at the City Hall, on Friday night. The element of opposition was so strongly manifested throughout (he hon member's speech that it is quite on the cards an , adverse motion might have been carried. Mr . Fish himself evidently was of opinion that , this contingency was not unlikely, and he [ adroitly prevented any vote being taken L at all. A question on the subject of the female franchise had been put to him, and s Mr Fish had given a reply to it, when, L after a brief interlude, furnished by Mr C. Sonntag, there rose from a front seat Mr Mantz with the object of testing the feeling of the meettng, as he thought, he eaid, | that it would be useless to ask any more questions. Mr Fish assured Mr Mantz in his blandest tones that there was a question yet to answer, and proceeded to elaborate his reply regarding the female fran--1 chise, pausing for a moment to whisper an "aßide" to the Chairman, who promptly | "passed the whisper on" to a trusty ' henchman at the end of the stage, and ' concluded the expression of his views by ' moving a vote of thanks to the Chairman ' and by bidding the crowd good night. No sooner were the words out of his mouth ' than the curtain descended, the lights were • lowered, and the meeting was over. Mr > Mantz was quite taken aback, but, in- • stigated by some friends, he ascended the c stage and, standing in front of the curtain, » amid considerable uproar, in which the • feeble voice he uplifted could only have been audible to a few of those in front-rand the bulk of the meeting had by this time departed — he moved and put the following resolution :— " That this meeting, while l deeply deploring the fact that Mr Fish, • who was returned to Parliament at toe a last election on the Labour tioket, has l turned his back upon his party, trampkd • its principles under foot, and trailed its '. sacred flag through the mire of his own , delinquencies, must emphatically intimate ; to him that it can no longer repose con- , fidence in his honour as a man, or his , honesty as a politician ; and it pledges it- - self to exercise evory means in its power t to prevent his re-election as a represeni tative of Dunedin city." '• Those who drink Ceyliudo Tea will not • be satisfied with any other brand. — ' [Advt.] ' To Cuke SKiirfcDißEASßS.— SuTpholino Lena driv» away all Ertptiona, Pimples, Blotchy. ;od. , ness, and dWgurofcentß, leaving a oleir, tpr.le i ; skin.
