THB POSTMASTER-GENERAL.— SajB th© Brisbane Courier '—"One of the strongest figures at the recent Postal Conference was the Postmaster-General of New Zealand, the Hon J. G. Ward, M.H.E. for Awaraa. i A gentlemen of keen commercial instincts, i energetic, alert and capable, with prepos- • seasing appearance, he impressed those , with whom he came in contact as a man of uncommon power, and one to whom the i deatinieg of a country might with safety be entrusted. He is a loyal New Zealander, with enthusiastic faith in the future of the country of which he is one of the rulers, and it is easy to understand when such men as Mr Ward are in the Cabinet how it is that New Zealand has of recent years I been lifted out of the financial Slough o£ j Despond, and is now prosperous and on the I high road to a comfortable and wellestablished future. I Masonic.— At the meeting of Lodge St . Augustine last evening, the visitors included representatives of Lodge Charity* Birmingham, and the Indian Masonic diEtricts of Madras and Bombay. BrotherRev A. H. Etty, who is making a brief stay in Christchurcb, is a Past Grand Chaplain ! of the Madras and Bombay Grand Lodges. His long ministration in India has necessitated an extended holiday, and the reverend | gentleman chose the Australian Colonies and New Zealand as a recruiting ground— I a choice that has so far been attended with the happiest results. Bro Etty gave, iv the course of a brief address, a very interesting account of Maßonic progress in India, ' and he hopes— he is travelling northward — to be able to attend the Grand Lodge Convocation that is to be held at Auoklartd shortly. The W.M. of Lodge St Augustine (Bro A, Millar) waa enabled to be present, after' his recmt severe* illneßß, and -waft* warmly congratulated.
