Waimakariri- Ashley Water Supply Board.
The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held at the Municipal Chambers, Eangiora, this morning ; present— Mr J. Dobeon (Chairman) and all the members. A letter was received from the Department of Land and Survey, Wellington, covering copies of petitions addressed to his Excellenoy the Governor on the subject of the water supply scheme, one of the petitions being signed by Mr Marmaduke Dizon and twenty-Bix others, and the other by Mr M. Dixon only, and asking the Board to be good enough to send, for the information of the Government, any remarks upon the subject it might think fit. The petitions referred to wer6 from owners of 95,00$ acres of land, including 48,000 belonging to Mr Dixon, praying that they might be exempt from the water supply district, as the water would be of no value to them, and that a new district be formed to be supplied with water from an intake at Brown's Eock. It was further asked that a commission should be appointed to enquire into the matters set forth in the petition. On the motion of Mr Pashby, it was resolved to reply that the Board was unable to give the information asked for by the Lands Department, without having a map showing the lands of the disaffected ratepayers, with the names of the said ratepayers. On receipt of these the Board would be pleased to give all the information in its possession. It was resolved to proceed to take the land from Mr Gorton's property under the " Public Works Act." Accounts, amounting to £57 Is 2d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
