Both the Union Company of NewZealand- -and the Orient Company hare represented to the Colonial Government that they ought not to be overlooked in arrangements for the Vancouver Mail Service, and stating that they were both prepared to enter for the service. Mr D. Mills, of the Union Company to-day in the course of an interview stated that owing to the Monowai being required for the intercolonial trade, arrangements are proceeding to replace her in the 'Frisco line with a faster vessel of 4000 tons burden. He expected that the new veßsel would be running before next season, and that she would do the journey from 'Frisco to Sydney in twenty-one days. MELBOURNE, Apbil 11. The Government have adjourned the Vancouver mail question pending the receipt of news of the intentions of the South Australian Government. The Premier says he does not feel disposed to subsidise a line of steamers sot calling here. ADELAIDE, Apbil 11. The Premier has received a cable from the Premier of New South Wales, asking whether Government are willing to join in guaranteeing a sum of £20,000 to the Vancouver mail service. The PostmasterGeneral states that from a mail point of view business men are little concerned in the Pacific route. HOBAET, Apeii. 1. It is understood that, owing to the state of the finances, the Government will decline to join in the subsidy. BRISBANE, Apbil 11. Owing to the unsettled state of public affairs, Sir Thomaß M'llwraith has replied to the communication from the Premier of New South' Wales that he is unable to discuss the Vancouver mail question, though he is favourable to a direct service with Vancouver.

[Pee. Pbess Association.! WELLINGTON, Apbii, 11. The Government has sot been approached on the subject of the Vancouver service, whence it is inferred that the present intention is to run the steamers direct to Australia and leave New Zealand out.
