The Treasury states that the request of the Australian, mints, that they be empowered to give full weight for light gold coins, implies that England should undertake the task of renewing the gold coinage of the Empire. Although the agents of the CanadianPacific Company have received no confirmation of the statement that their steamers have been subsidised to run between Canada and Australia, Messrs Huddart, Parker and Company believe that the cablegram is probably correct, as negotiations have been, proceeding for some little time. Messrs Huddart, Parker and Co., in a letter to the Government, propose that, in addition to the Canadian subsidy, the Colonies Bhould contribute £20,000, the service to be a monthly one, and, if the inducement is sufficient, fortnightly; the mails to be delivered in London in twentysix days. It the proposal is accepted, it is proposed to initiate the service with the Warrimoo and Miowera. Mr Kidd, the Postmaster-General, approves of the scheme.
