AUCKLAND, Pbbi, 27. At the annual meeting of the Neir Zealand District Board of the Hibernian Society, the statement of accounts showed a credit balance of .£2689. The Northern District Board of the Society has resolved to meet next year in Wellington. Brother W. Betham waa elected President. The Board agreed to a motion expressing f sympathy with the sufferers by the Queensland floods. ME E. L. STEVENSON. The well-known novelist, Mr B. L. Stevenson, who was one of the passengers by the Mariposa on her way to Sydney*, travelling for the benefit of his health, was interviewed here. He declared, that if certain officials in Samoa continued to rale, the life of a British resident there would not be worth living:. He maintains that all the charges which he made were substantiated in the German White Books recently issued. Mr Stevenson says he does not intend to Jeave Samoa unless he ia deported. He is convinced that annexation is the best thing that could happen to Samoa. THE HON W. EOLLESTON.' The Hon W. Eolleston, leader of the Opposition, is to address a public meeting in Auckland on Monday evening next. LIBEEAL. ASSOCIATION. At the Land Board meeting to-day it waß decided that an; official enquiry in connection with the alleged dummyisnt case should take place on Tuesday, March, 14. The first case ' in the Eesident Magistrate's Court for an alleged false declaration under the Land Act will be commenced, to-morrow. WELLINGTON TEAMS. * WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. In consequence of a complaint by the Trades Council as to interference with the streets by the tramlines, the Cifcy Surveyor has made an examination, and reports that there is little to find fault with except at one or two points, which the tramway owners have been ordered to repair at once. SIR.EOBEET STOUT. Sir Robert Stout passed through hero to-day, en route- to attend the University Senate at Auckland. BIS EXCELLENCY. A. deputation of Presbyterians waited on his Excellency the Governor to-day, and presented him with an address of welcome and loyalty on behalf of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. Lord Glasgow, in returning thanks, bore high testimony to the work that the Church has done in Scotland.. -. . .-,.
