The Industrial Association of Canterbury.

The usual fortnightly meeting of tbe Committee of this Association was held last evening. The President occupied the chair, and a large amount of business was transacted. The following letter from Mr Derbidge, Inspeotor of Works, > Lyttelton, was read :— " Messrs Scotfc Bros., " Sirs, — Thi. following is the result of the testing of tho cement bricks made from the cement supplied by yon :— Six bricks moulded 18-12-92. Tested 9-1-93. 1.1227, 1.1413, 1.1383, 1.1200, 1.1314, 1.11851 b. Five bricks moulded 14-12-92. Tested 21-12-92. 1.956, 1.804, 1.1090, 1.940, 1.8041 b." The President explained that the 28 days' test averaged 572, and the 7 days' test 408, which was considered very satisfactory, as the 7 dayß* test is 108, or over 25 per cent above the minimum at whioh the Government will accept cement for their works. A motion was tabled for next meeting to consider the feasibility of holding a purely industrial exhibition in Christohnroh, the date to be deoided upon later on. The members of tbe Committee deoided it wonld be advisable for individual members, as occasion offered, to call on manufacturers to Bee if anything in their industries required to be brought before the Ae'BOoiatJon with a view to benefit the said industries, and in the meantime, if any manufacturers shonld wißh the members of the Committee of the Association to vißit their works they would be pleased to do so on the. Secretary, Mr D. Bellhouße, receiving euch intimation by letter or otherwise. The Committee is now determined to work the Association into its former usefulness, and to leave no stone unturned to forward the interests of the industries of the Colony, and asks the preßß, all manufacturers, and the pnblic generally, to lend it a helping hand to carry out its determination. After transacting some routine business, the meeting adjourned to Thursday next*.
