The following are the vital statistics for January:— . • ,
, * Including suburbs. The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 476, against 372 in December, an increase of 104. The deaths in January were 217, an increase of 61 on the number in December. Of the deaths, males contributed 130 and females 87. Seventy-six of the deaths were of children tinder five years of age, being 35*02 per cent of the whole number; 61 of these were under one year of age.
