WORK AND WAGES.
—Ob A meeting to discuss matters pertaining to threshing was held at the rooms of the Amalgamated Shearers and Labourers' Union at Waimate on Saturday evening, a good number being present. Statistics were produced to show that for this work men in the district were the most badly paid of any workers throughout the Colony. A long discussion ensued, when resolutions were passed affirming the necessity for the maintenance of an unwavering attitude on the part of workers. The Secretary was also instructed to write to other districts concerning the bad state- of affairs, and warning workers to keep, away pending a satisfactory settlement. Information wftß received that the hands at several mills in the Oamaru diafeciot had struck for a penny per hour more. After appointing Mr Kennedy agent to organise the various mill hands* the Keating ended.
