The Gale.

Monday afternoon's gale- did a good deal of damage in the Geraldine district. An old landmark, a hones occupied by Mrs M'Kay, and belonging to Mr S. Hewlings, had its thatofaed soot considerably damaged, and, had k not been for the timely help of some neighbours, probably the whole roof would have succumbed to the fury of the gale. Nearly all the farmers in the district have suffered through the tops of- stacks being blown down and the toppling over uf the stooks. The weather on Monday sight was excess siveiy cold and frosty* Yesterday morn-, ing a keen north-easterly wind blew, but towards noon it calmed down and the weather became ver^y hot.
