Another Cry of " Wool."
It comes from the manufacturing centres, assuring us that there will be a demand presently, and that' prices will rise. The need is great, but it is a comforting reflection that probably we have touched bottom. With the revival of the manufacturing demand in Europe, and the opening of therAmerican ports, we shall have better times presently. Let us remember that our wool export reaches four millions. Did we not say last week that the history of the wool market showed that the constancy of sudden changes is unchangeable? The South Australian people appear to have no mind to wait for the Americans to alter their tariff ; they want to unlock the ports with a reciprocity treaty. Kerosene on one side, wool on the other. But they are shut out for lack of power to treat with the foreigner. That power they can get of course ; for a Colony in these days has nothing to do but to ask for what it wants, except apparently in such departmental matterß as Post Office regulations and cable rates. But before the Adelaide people have got what they want the American ports probably will be open. Let us at all events hope so.
