[Special to Pbess Association.! LONDON, Not. 26. Pour hundred o£ the unemployed interviewed Sir E. C. N. Braddon with regard to emigration to Tasmania. He replied that labourers were not wanted in that Colony. The Acting Agent General for Victoria has denounced the proposal to send the sweepings of England to the Colonies, and states that Melbourne is already glutted with waifs and strays. The police have forbidden the unemployed to march through the streets at midnight.
A meeting of members of the Amalgamated Shearers and General Labourers' Union was held in the Foresters' Hall, Waimate, on Friday evening. The chair was occupied by Mr T. Brown. Mr J. E. M'Donald, organiser from the Australian Shearers' Union, who was present, submitted plans for thoroughly organising the shearers and shed hands of New Zealand. It was then decided that he should proceed to the north of this island and canvass each shed on his way back; other districts will be worked through correspondence with shed representatives. The members present were requested to urge all shed hands to immediately write to the nearest Secretary, the General Secretary, or the President, and carefully give addresses, to ensure the safe delivery of circulars and papers. After recommending the Executive to engage another organiser if required the meeting ended.
