Heavy rain fell at internals, and the result was a very dead wicket , n the afternoon, when Hawkes Bay had , o bat. Wellington, with 19 to their redit, went to the wicketa and pat to- ' •ether 133. win, but scored only 85. Dryden was t very difficult to play on the wicket, and j he took fonr for 34, Woletenholm and ( Bruce, the chief scorns on the first day, falling to him without a run to their credit. Fitzsimmons, however, had the best average with five wickets for 39. Taiaroa 24, C Williams 16 and Smith 15 not ont were the ] top scorers. The fielding of both teams \ was a great improvement on that of the first day. l DUNEDIN, Nov. 27. In the Senior Cup matches Carisbrook came shore of the 77 runß required in the i second innings by nine runs, and thus left i Grange winners. Opoho in its match with ( Albion converted what seemed likely to be , a defeat into a comfortable victory, mainly ! owing to the batting of Boddington.
