: CHRISTCHUBCH. This Day. (Before P. A. Bishop and W. Barnett, i Esqs.) Stealing Obangbs. — William Sampson, aged eleven years and six months, was < charged with stealing three oranges, value 6d, from the shop of Mr C. Cummings. The boy admitted the offence. Sergeant Barlow said the boy was seen to take the orange 3 from prosecutor's shop early this morning. The boy's father said the lad frequently slept out at night, and last night slept away from home. He was a very bad boy, and would not go to school or do anything for his parents. He always had a good home to go to, but preferred associating with other bad boys, and< sleeping out. The Bench administered- the- boy a severe caution, and allowed him to go. Case Dismissed^*— Thomas Kelly was charged with assaulting' Enoch Wood on Nov. 15. Defendant • pleaded 1 provocation. The complainant, a boy aged about fourteen, said defendant's- cow was in his father'spaddockwhenthecomplainantdrove it out. Defendant then picked up a gorse stick and hit complainant two or three times. A brother of complainant and Mrs Wood gave evidence. The defendant said the complainant drove his cow into a wire fence, whereupon he (defendant) hit the boy six or eight times with a whip. The Bench dismissed the case. ■
