♦ . CANTERBURY UNITED DISTRICT. A meeting of the officers and delegates of this Order was held at the Foresters" Hall on Thursday evening ; present — Bros S. D. Wathew, D.C.R. ; George White, D.S.C.R. ; H. Crooks, D.T.; Thomas Gapeß, D.S. ; H. M'Nao, D.8. ; delegates — Bros George Wade, C. A: Eldridge, W. Weabley, J.R. Davidson and J. Swindell, Court 2309 ; George Bedford, Court G3Ol - r F. P. Luce, Court 6494; W. Simp9on, Court 6583; J. W. Steven, Court 6584; J. OBborne, Court 6585 ; J. Lockbead, Court 6727; E. Thompson, Court 6728; J. W. Baker, Court 6729 ; Court 2703* sent au apology for the absence of its delegate, and Court 7755 was unrepresented. Correspondence was read from the O.K. of Court Pride of Richmond, regarding the amalgamation of the Court with Court Star of Canterbury. He said that it was not necessary to give notice to the district, as the amalgatinn affected the Court's funds only. The District Secretary took exception to the statement, and said the members, through not doing business in a constitutional manner, might have found themselves in an embarrassing position, if objection were taken, which he did not wish to do, knowing the circumstances of the transfer. The District Secretary then proposed — " That thiß District having a knowledge of the reasons of the amalgamation of Court Pride of Richmond with Court Star of Canterbury (although proper notice should have been given) will offer no objection to the arrangements made." The motion wrb carried. A letter was received from the Registrar, with certificate of the appointment of Bro J. S. "VVilliamß aB a Trustee of the District. A letter was received regarding the employment of valuers for the quinquennial valuation at the end of the present year, and in reference to the certificate of registry of the new laws, which are already being printed. The D.S, reported that he had had considerable trouble in the supply and printing of the balance-eheet. He gave notice of motion — "That in the future each Court print its own balance* sheet separate from that of the district "— but subsequently withdrew it at the request of the delegates. Bro Swindell proposed — "That the than kß of the meeting be given to the Revising Committee, and that the sum of £3 3s be voted to each member for their services in compiling a complete amendment of the laws." The motion was carried. The half-yearly statement of the receipts and expenditure waß read. It showed the receipts to the funeral fund to be i>222 43 7d, expenditure.£9o; management fund, £75 9j Id, expenditure £71 16s; total worth of funeral fund on June 30, £3691 8s !)d ; management fund, £56 0s 7d ; assets £3747 9s 4d ; invested £3670, at an average of 7 per cont ; profit for six months £135 17a Sd. Bro Crooks moved and Bro Bedford seconded — " That the officers and delegates of the Canterbury United District in meeting assembled, representing the Foresters in North Canterbury, desire to place on record their regret at the death of the late Sir Harry Atkinson, and their feeling of the loss the Colony has sustained thereby, and. that they highly appreciate the valuable services which he has rendered as an earnest supporter of the interests of Friendly Societies ; also that this meeting desires to express its Bincere sympathy with Lady Atkinson and family in their bereavement, the Permanent District Secretary to communicate the expression of thiß meeting in a letter to Lady Atkinson." The motion was carried. The next meeting of the District will be held at Eaiapoi in October next.
