[Per Pbess Association.! STBTJCK BY LIGHTNING. MASTEBTON, Fbb. 4. An unusually violent thunderstorm passed over this district this afternoon, lasting about two hours. Bain fell in torrents. The thunder at timeß was very heavy, and the lightning was fearfully vivid. It is reported from Opake that one man waa struck dead, another was paralysed, and four horses were killed. Dr Beard has gone out, and until his retnrn bo farther details can be procured. ' DUNEDIN, Fkb. 4. Emily Callick. thirty years of age, wife of a railway surfaceman, died to-day while under chloroform. She was .having some teeth extracted at Myers' dentistry. Dr Macpherson administered the anaesthetic, and shortly afterwards he noticed the pulso cease suddenly. Efforts were at once made. to reatore animation, but without avail.
