A Wellington Musician.

• • [Pbs Pukss Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. Mr Ali Hill, one of the well-known musical family of that name in Wellington, who has been studying for Borne years at Leipsic, whore he has acquitted himself with credit, returned to Wellington a few days ago. Yesterday afternoon he gave a matinee by special invitation, during which ha played several solos on the violin, some of them being his own composition, and his brother, Mr E. J. Hill, sang three tenor songs composed by the former. The young musician was loudly applauded, and his playing was generally acknowledged to be of high merit. Mr Hill is the first New Zealand violinist who has studied at Leipsic, and he was successful in gaining high honours against all comers. Mr Hill has composed several pieces for violin and piano, as well as vocal pieces, which are in the hands of German publishers. < He has been appointed conductor of the Wellington Orchestral Society, and he proposes to follow his profession in Wellington, at the same time carrying on his studies.
